Ingredients

  • 16 oz gnocchi
  • 0.5 cup red onion chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 14.5 oz diced tomatoes canned
  • 0.5 cup feta cheese crumbled
  • 3 slices mozzarella cheese
  • 10 cloves garlic whole
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp garlic salt
  • 1 tbsp dried basil
  • 5 leaves fresh sage
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • fresh parsley for garnish

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic cloves and chopped red onion. Sauté for 3–5 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  2. Add ground beef to the skillet. Season with garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and sage leaves. Cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until fully browned. Drain excess fat if desired.
  3. Stir in diced tomatoes, chicken broth, and gnocchi. Add garlic salt, dried basil, and butter. Mix well and bring to a boil for 2–3 minutes.
  4. Reduce heat to low and stir in crumbled feta cheese. Simmer for 5 minutes until the gnocchi is tender and sauce slightly thickened.
  5. Layer mozzarella slices over the skillet. Stir gently until melted into the sauce.
  6. Garnish with fresh parsley. Adjust seasoning if needed and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use fresh, frozen, or shelf-stable gnocchi depending on what you have on hand. Cooking directly in the sauce infuses more flavor.
  • For a leaner dish, drain excess fat from the beef after browning.
  • Adjust salt at the end, since feta and mozzarella both add natural saltiness.
